MOST OUTSTANDING NEW EVENT NOMINEE

Vietnamese Student Organization at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (VSOUL)

Lotus Games

Provide a detailed description of the event and the population it served. Details MUST include: date of event, number of participants, program purpose (goals, objectives, etc.), use of resources (finances, community support, etc.), and marketing techniques.

Lotus Games was on March 30th and had approximately 10 people participating. The goal of this event was to replace our annual Game Day with something a little less competitive with something more culturally centered and trendy, which in this case was Squid Games. We had not spent a lot of money on this event, only buying last minute supplies and using what we already had in inventory. Marketing wise, we had gotten our PR intern to make her very first Instagram graphic on her own and used this as a learning opportunity as well.

What inspired your organization to create this new event?

In the beginning of the year, we had already decided to get rid of Game Day. We just needed something to replace it with. At the time, Squid Game Season 2 had just come out so we had the idea of making our own Squid Games, but incorporate Vietnamese games as well.

What efforts were used to motivate and involve the organization's members?

We had made sure to promote this event at every chance we could (ie. General Meetings, Bake Sales, GroupMes).

Did the organization overcome any challenges that arose while planning and implementing the event? How?

While planning the event, we had an EBOARD member unfortunately make some very bad decisions, causing us to fall behind on the planning and put our focus on them. They were kicked off board only two days before the event and even then we were still shaken up by what had happened.
