MOST OUTSTANDING Cultural Program NOMINEE
Vietnamese Student Association at Louisiana State University (VSA-LSU)
Pho Night
Describe the cultural program and how it meets the mission and goals of the organization. Details MUST include: Date of event, number of participants, program purpose (i.e. goals and objectives), member involvement, use of resources, and marketing techniques.
VSA-LSU Pho Night was held on February 13 from 6:30pm-8:30pm. It’s a fun food event that always attracts a lot of people. The event is a social event with all you can eat pho that VSA-LSU does every year. The turnout was great, bringing 121 people to the event, not including E-board. Our mission and goal with pho night was to showcase a classic and well-loved part of Vietnamese culture, which was pho! Pho night couldn’t have happened without all the donors that supported VSA-LSU, which helped provide supplies and food items for pho night. We gave our gratitude by spotlighting them in our VSA-LSU instagram and thanking them. To market pho night, we mostly used general body meetings, instagram posts and stories, and word of mouth.
How did this cultural program serve the campus and/or community?
Pho night was able to provide an immersive experience to anyone wanting to learn or know more about vietnamese culture by providing all you can eat pho.
Did the organization overcome any challenges that arose while planning and implementing the cultural program/event? How?
Some challenges were finding funds and donors to be able to make pho night happen. We overcame this by putting a lot of fundraisers for the organization, such as bake sales, and always on the lookout for donors. Another challenge was organization and communication during the actual event to be able to serve the big crowd that comes for pho night. We overcame this by making sure that all roles were filled and everyone knows the role they are assigned. We made a semi-assembly line to be able to provide quick and quality service to everyone.
