The dance was our annual performance in Talent Auction. It’s a really fun and engaging way for general members to be “roped in” and become involved in VSA-LSU as practices are held twice a week leading up to Talent Auction. These dance practices are always really light-hearted and relaxed but also very productive to make sure everyone enjoys the experience while learning to dance and meeting all the other dancers. VSA-LSU’s sub-theme in the overarching Time Eras theme was the Future. The concept that our choreographers came up for the dance then became aliens vs. robots. The beginning of the dance starts off with the song “Like a G6” by Far East Movement to introduce the two sides of the battle: robots and aliens. During this song, each side does a little showcase to provide a little sneak peek of their group in unity. In the end of this first song, we start seeing the “battle” that ensues. The first group that danced was the green aliens led by Victoria Le and they danced to the song “Meet Me Halfway” by Black Eyed Peas. Victoria’s personals dance was full of formations and fluid motions, signifying the potential hive minds of aliens and their wavy tentacles. The song complemented their dance as it’s a light-hearted song that’s really melodic and flowy, which goes well with the alien vibe. After Victoria’s aliens dance comes Khanh Le’s silver robots dance with the song “#thatPOWER” by will.i.am. Khanh’s personals dance was full of stiff and rigid movements that were indicative of robots and their way of moving. The music worked well with the dance due to the fact that it has an electronic sounding vibe and beat to it, matching the theme of robots. The third dance is the couples/duo dance led by Kiley Daigs and Khanh. The music chosen was “Until the End of Time” by Justin Timberlake. This dance was to show the forbidden union between a robot and an alien. The slow and R&B song highlighted the sensual and suggestive dance as well as making sure each half of the pairing gets a little spotlight. Finally, the outro dance finished off the whole performance as everyone (robots and aliens) joined back on stage together and danced in harmony and peace. The song “Break Free” by Ariana Grande highlighted the act of breaking barriers to have peace and unity between aliens and robots.
