Provide a detailed description of the event and the population it served. Details MUST include: date of event, number of participants, program purpose (goals, objectives, etc.), use of resources (finances, community support, etc.), and marketing techniques.
Anh Chi Em Family Feud was held on Thursday, October 9th from 7:00pm to 8:30pm with 32 participants. The purpose of the event was to reveal the new Anh/Chi/Em pairings and develop an initial bond between the pairings. Right before playing the game of the event, The Anh/Chi/Em pairings were introduced using an envelope that stated each pairing alongside a picture of the anh/chi to let the ems look for their anhs/chis and pair up. The game was held in a similar manner to Family Feud, hosted by Steve Harvey and the game was held through a Canva presentation with our newly appointed Freshmen Representative playing the host. Each Anh/Chi/Em pairing would be teamed up with 2 other pairings and competed for the most amount of points during the game, and the game would be played out in a tournament format. The game was open to everyone including those without a anh/chi/em pairing.
What inspired your organization to create this new event?
Our organization wanted to introduce events that increased bonding between anh/chi/em pairings as last year not many anhs and chis talked to their ems and vice versa. The style of this event was inspired by Family Feud since it was a show that was popular and coincidently had families playing which coincided with our anh/chi/em families that we created.
What efforts were used to motivate and involve the organization's members?
We introduced the Anh Chi Em program during the First General Body Meeting, and our eboard collectively invited people to sign up for our program alongside the Freshmen Representative who reached out to all of the freshmen in VSA to sign up for the program and then the event once it was posted. Our graphic designer created the A.C.E. Family Feud graphic, posted on Instagram by our PR and on Discord by our Webmaster. An email was also sent out to the anhs and chis by our President to get them to come out to the event for their ems.
Did the organization overcome any challenges that arose while planning and implementing the event? How?
The hardest part of the event was how we would host the Family Feud game. We didn't exactly know how the game worked: how to run the game, what determined the score of each answer, and the size of the team since the anhs, chis, and ems were more like pairings than an actual family. We ended up running the game on a Canva slideshow edited as the game was playing. Answers had boxes over them to delete in real time to reveal answers. We created our own questions and answers, assigning different amounts of points for each answer, totaling 100 points possible points for each question. We ended up creating small families of 3 Anh/Chi/Em pairings and adding in those who didn't sign up for an Anh/Chi/Em pairing faily amongst the teams.
