Describe the cultural program and how it meets the mission and goals of the organization. Details MUST include: Date of event, number of participants, program purpose (i.e. goals and objectives), member involvement, use of resources, and marketing techniques.

On February 12th from 6:00–8:00 PM, the Vietnamese Student Association at Louisiana State University (VSA-LSU) hosted its annual Pho Night at the LSU Global Community Center. This highly anticipated cultural event welcomed just under 100 attendees from the LSU student community, who gathered to enjoy pho, a traditional Vietnamese dish. The event aimed to promote cultural awareness and appreciation while creating an inclusive space for students of all backgrounds to connect. Pho Night directly aligns with VSA-LSU’s mission of celebrating and sharing Vietnamese culture while fostering community engagement on campus.

The Executive Board played an active role in organizing and executing the event, from planning logistics to preparing and serving food. All pho ingredients and materials were acquired through donations, allowing the organization to keep the event affordable at $5 for members and $12 for non-members. Marketing efforts included announcements at general body meetings, social media promotion, and word-of-mouth outreach, contributing to strong attendance. Through collaboration and cultural storytelling, Pho Night successfully brought together a diverse group of students, strengthened community bonds, and highlighted the significance of Vietnamese cuisine as a cultural experience.

How did this cultural program serve the campus and/or community?

Pho Night served the LSU campus community by providing an inclusive space for students to come together and experience Vietnamese culture through a shared meal. With nearly 100 attendees, the event promoted cultural awareness and encouraged connection among a diverse group of students who may not otherwise interact, strengthening campus community bonds.

The program also supported accessibility and engagement by keeping costs low ($5 for members and $12 for non-members) and using donated ingredients. As a highly anticipated annual event, Pho Night reinforces VSA-LSU’s mission of promoting cultural education, social, and community building on campus.

Did the organization overcome any challenges that arose while planning and implementing the cultural program/event? How?

Yes. VSA-LSU faced a few challenges while planning Pho Night but was able to adapt and still run a successful event. The original date (February 6th) had to be changed to February 12th due to scheduling availability, and securing business donations was difficult, with several rejections. On top of that, the organization was short-staffed after losing 3 executive board members, so 4 senior advisors stepped in to help fill gaps and keep planning on track. Some internal disorganization also led to last-minute coordination and uneven task distribution, but key executive board members stepped up to make sure everything came together.

During the event, the kitchen experienced some delays and order mix-ups that briefly backed up the serving line. However, the executive board quickly adjusted, communicated, and worked together to keep things moving. Despite these issues, the team stayed flexible and the event still ran smoothly with strong attendance and engagement.
